As this week is autism awareness week we will look at how CBD may have a positive impact on the lives of people who live with Autism.
what is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how a person may communicate and relate to other people. As well as how they experience the world around them. There is no specific cause for autism many researchers believe it may link to genetics.There is no cure for autism. Yet many people take medication to help treat some of the physical and mental-health conditions that people with autism may experience. Some of these conditions include;
– Gastrointestinal (GI) problems
– Feeding issues
– Disrupted sleep
So where does CBD come into all this?
CBD is one of the many compounds found in the cannabis plant. These compounds belong to a class of substances called cannabinoids. As CBD is non psychoactive, you will not get high but reap the benefits of CBD instead. There is lots of research currently taking place on the effects of CBD on people with Autism. Although the results are not yet certain that CBD can help treat Autism itself, it does have a positive effect on the physical and mental health conditions that people with Autism may have.
So while CBD may not yet aid as a treatment for Autism as a whole, it can improve the quality of life for people living with Autism by acting as a treatment for other conditions they may have.
An example of some research that took place in 2013 at the division of Pharmacology in the department of experimental medicine at the university of Naples. They discovered that the research they did indicated that “CB2 receptor as potential therapeutic target for the pharmacological management of the Autism care” showing potential promise that CBD may help people with Autism.
