Mental health is important. Talking about mental health is important. Being aware of your own mental health is important. This week is mental health awareness week and we want to talk about the effects CBD may have on your mental health.
What is Mental Health?
Mental health involves our emotional, psychological, physical and social well-being. It can affect how we think feel and act on a day to day basis. Mental health is important at every stage of life from being a child all the way through to adulthood and old age.
How common are mental health problems?
1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. The number of people with mental health problems hasn’t changed much in recent years – worries about relationships, money, jobs, school make it hard for people to cope.
There are lots of different types of mental health problems – every 7 years a survey is done in England to look at the number of people with different types of mental health problems. The most recent survey (2016) showed:
- Generalised anxiety disorder 5.9 in 100 people
- Depression 3.3 in 100 people
- Phobias 2.4 in 100 people
- OCD 1.3 in 100 people
- Panic disorder 0.6 in 100 people
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) 4.4 in 100 people
- Mixed anxiety and depression 7.8 in 100 people
There are many treatments and medications for helping with mental health issues, however people don’t like side effects that come with some medications. This is where CBD comes in.
