CBD Oil for Pets
CBD oil is a growing industry. It has many benefits for manys conditions. But did you know about the benefits that CBD can offer your pets?
Exciting reports about CBD Oil for dogs and cats have been surfacing. The findings show that CBD works well for pets in a similar way that it works for humans. If you’ve spent time researching the benefits of CBD Oil for pets, then you would have found yourself wondering “Is this product is safe?”.
Many people worry about getting their pet ‘stoned’. CBD Oil doesn’t contain any psychoactive properties. This means they will reap the benefits of CBD without that ‘high’ or ‘stoned’ feeling.
What is CBD?
CBD comes from the cannabis or hemp plant. These plants contain more than 100 active compounds. The one that’s most often used for medicinal purposes is cannabidiol (CBD).
It can come in many different forms, drops, capsules, gel tabs, vape oil, gel, in treats and more! As a result, this means that finding a form that your pet likes and will take can be quite easy.
How does CBD work?
In recent years, CBD has generated a lot of interest among consumers, clinicians, scientists and vets. Numerous animal studies and accumulating evidence from human experimental, clinical and epidemiological studies have all shown that CBD has strong anti-anxiety properties.
CBD offers soothing and calming properties which help combat anxiety. Not only this, but it also appears safe and well-tolerated by humans and animals alike.

Most animals can use CBD oil, from horses to farm animals, dogs and cats. When it comes to anxiety, it’s not uncommon for your pet to suffer from different types of anxiety. This can be separation anxiety or anxiety during certain times of the year. For many household pets, bonfire night is a stressful time.
Anxiety affects animals in many different ways. Like people, some are more susceptible to it than others.
There are two main different types of anxiety when it comes to our much-loved pets, these can include:
Behavioural anxiety: for example- separation anxiety
Situational anxiety: becoming anxious during thunderstorms, fireworks, around strangers and when travelling.
Symptoms of anxiety in animals can differ depending on the type of animal and the situation. Anxiety symptoms in a dog, for example, can include:
- – Loss of appetite
- – Shaking
- – Aggression or growling
- – Urinating or defecating indoors
- – Whimpering
- – Pacing
- – Panting
- – Nervous licking of lips
- – Cowering and hiding
Treating animals who have cancer can be an expensive and heart-breaking process. Current treatment usually involves chemotherapy, radiation, surgery or a combination of the three. Less than 50% of dogs will suffer from cancer.
When it comes to CBD, you will often see cancer and CBD success stories online. But like humans, pets can enjoy cancer-busting the properties that CBD has to offer.
Studies on CBD have shown that it can stop cancer cells from growing. CBD also increases tumour cell death.
CBD and Cancer facts:
-It helps kill cancer cells by blocking their ability to produce energy
-CBD helps the immune system’s killer cells to cause cancer cell death
-The anti-tumour properties slow and inhibit glioma cell growth
-It can help increase the efficacy of conventional cancer treatment
Seizures and Epilepsy
With 5% of dogs suffering from seizures alone, it’s no wonder people are looking at CBD as a form of treatment.
Current drugs prescribed by vets for seizures often lead to some nasty side effects. Not only can they be harmful to your pet’s liver and other organs, they can also be very expensive.
CBD has shown to work very well for epilepsy, particularly drug-resistant epilepsy. Several human studies show that:
– 87% of patients saw a big and definite improvement, within 5 months of taking CBD. (Patients with epilepsy that was drug-resistant).
-84% of children taking CBD saw a reduction in the frequency of seizures.
Success stories from pet owners have confirmed the benefits of CBD. Reports are very impressive when it comes to epilepsy.
Pain Management and CBD
Pain in elderly animals is very common. Vets will often prescribe many different drugs. Many of these will have very little success at easing the discomfort.
Pain can be a result of one or more of the following conditions:
- Joint Issues
- Lumps and bumps causing pain
Studies show that cannabinoids work well for pain. For many years, CBD has been a pain management drug in other countries.
Inflammation and pain management are two of the many benefits of CBD. CBD can decrease the production and release of inflammatory cytokines. These can cause hypersensitivities, autoimmunity and cause allergies.
It can also suppress Th17 dominance, which is a major cause of autoimmune diseases. CBD also inhibits the production of inflammatory macrophages. As a result, can decrease chronic inflammation.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
CBD can prevent colitis (IBS). Restoring normal gut motility in inflammatory bowel diseases in animals.
A major benefit of CBD is that it appears to have antibiotic properties. Impacting well against MRSA (Staph. Aureus).
Australian Vet Edward Bassingthwaighte discovered how CBD oil could be a critical part of his holistic veterinary practice.
In one study, a Jack Russell Terrier with a severe heart murmur and painful arthritis took CBD Oil for one month. After the month, he wanted to go for long walks and his murmur was much improved. Edward Bassingthwaighte said: “I simply can’t explain the improved heart murmur; they normally don’t get better.”
Researchers are turning their attention to this CBD. So far, they’re finding there are lots more studies with results like this. As CBD has helped humans, your dog can reap the same health-boosting benefits.
CBD seems to be a great alternative treatment for animals for many conditions. Unfortunately, it may take time for the veterinary industry to take this drug on board. Legislation seems to be all over the place for CBD at the moment.
Nausea and vomiting
It’s no secret that CBD helps with nausea. For many pet owners, nausea and sickness can cause huge issues for weight loss.
But, the National Cancer Institute reports that CBD increases appetite. In animal studies, the results have shown that CBD helps with vomiting and nausea. Even when they’re a result of other toxins and drugs, i.e cancer treatment, CBD has shown to have helped.
Human studies of CBD and neurodegenerative diseases have recorded some promising results.
Degenerative disease such as degenerative myelopathy and other spinal/ nerve related issues can all benefit from CBD.
Studies have shown CBD to be beneficial in treating Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). It appears that CBD protects the brain cells from toxicity.
For elderly dogs, CBD can protect the brain from cell death caused by free radicals and toxins.
